ASPIRING JETs

The JET Program is a competitive employment opportunity that allows young professionals to live and work in cities, towns, and villages throughout Japan. JET Program participants are not only teachers and public servants—they are cultural ambassadors of the United States to Japan, and only the best candidates are chosen to represent America.

Typically, 4,000-5,000 applications are received each year from U.S. applicants. Of these, 1,000-1,100 will be selected for participation on the JET Program.

Each fall, applications are reviewed to ensure that all required documents have been submitted.  Applicants who pass the initial screening are invited to interview. Selected candidates will be offered a position with the JET Program and then matched with a contracting organization in Japan.

The JET Program application period is now closed. Please check back again in August/September 2017 for updates regarding the application for JET 2018-19.

Since the JET Program was founded in 1987, we have sent more than 61,000 global participants (including nearly 32,000 Americans) to work in schools, boards of education, and government offices throughout Japan.
