General Housekeeping – Important Dates

Summer Workshop Series:

Workshops will be held in June and July of 2025. All June workshops will be held online via Zoom.

Pre-Departure Orientation (“PDO”):

PDO will take place on Friday, August 1st, 2025, in Washington, D.C.

*Shortlist JETs for the 2025 DC Cohort must attend Pre-Departure Orientation, hosted by the JET Program Office, at the Embassy of Japan.

Summer DC Departure Date:

Group B (which includes Washington, D.C.) will depart on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, with arrival to Japan on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025.

* Please note that alternate candidates upgraded later in the summer may be assigned a later departure date.

Workshop #4: Culture Shock & Getting Involved

     Wednesday, July 9th, 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM

This workshop will cover advice on how to navigate culture shock during your first year on the JET Program, and highlight ways to get involved with your community and create connections after arriving to Japan. JET Program alumni will present and be available at the end of the workshop to take your questions.

Workshop #5: Seeking Care in Japan & Staying Healthy

     Wednesday, July 16th, 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM

This workshop will cover medical care and finding treatment while living in Japan. Mental health resources will be shared, along with information about JET Accident Insurance for participants. There will also be information on and resources for navigating dietary restrictions abroad.

Workshop #6: Identity, Diversity, and Diplomacy on JET

This workshop will be hosted by JET Program alumni. There will be small groups for 2025 DC cohort members to join to ask questions and seek advice from members of our local alumni chapter, JETAADC.

Workshop #1: Preparation for Japan – Click here for presentation slides

     Monday, June 9th, 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM

This workshop will covered tasks to tackle in the months leading up to departure. We discussed what to pack, your flight baggage allowance, legal and financial obligations to consider before departure, important documents for traveling to and living in Japan, and more.

     Monday, June 16th, 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM

This workshop covered topics generally related to your personal safety in Japan, including disaster preparedness, important laws, and various cultural considerations. Click through the presentation for valuable resources that are available for improving your safety and wellness on the JET Program.

     Monday, June 23rd, 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM

This workshop covered financial wellness while living in a foreign country. We discussed how much money to bring when you initially arrive to Japan, personal finances while on the JET Program, United States tax obligations while abroad, banking in Japan, and more. Current JET participants from Nagasaki Prefecture and Chiba Prefecture presented during this session and took questions from the cohort.
