SUPPORT

While most JET participants live happy and healthy lives in Japan, the JET Program recognizes that mental health support is an important part of overall well-being and strives to make that support readily available and accessible. Below is a list of free services and financial aid programs available to JET Program participants.

JET Online Counselling Service

JET Program participants are able to receive professional counselling for free through Web Mail and video call, as part of the JET Online Counselling Service established by CLAIR. After registering for the service, JET Program participants can communicate with a counselor without limit when using the Web Mail service and can book up to 7 counselling sessions over video call per year. The useable period for 2025 JETs is from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. Please ask your contracting organization or Host Prefecture/Designated City or check CLAIR News (email edition) for more information.

JET Mental Health Counselling Assistance Program

With the aim of enhancing mental health support for JET participants, CLAIR offers the JET Mental Health Counselling Assistance Program. This program provides a partial subsidy (50%, up to ¥30,000 per year) for counselling costs incurred through consultation with mental health professionals in Japan not covered by health insurance. The coverage period for 2025 JETs is from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. For further information, please ask your contacting organization.
